Matahuru Valley Walk

Experience Tui Ridge and Our Farm at Your Leisure during your stay with us.

While you’re relaxing at Tui Ridge Homestay, why not take the time to explore our farm? With no rush, you can enjoy another coffee and read a chapter of your book before setting off on a scenic walk.

The trail begins at Tui Ridge Homestay and meanders through the QE2 blocks. You’ll pass an old flying fox, once a favorite for kids, stroll along beautiful farm tracks, and take in the stunning rolling farmland. Along the way, you’ll encounter farm animals and native bush, all alive with birdsong.

After a steady climb, you’ll reach the Hapuakohe Walkway, a part of the Department of Conservation’s walkway network. Here, you’ll find the Maungakawa VHF Radio Station, perched 535 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, enjoy panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf and spot the distinctive, wind-swept trees that stand on the exposed ridge.

Once you've caught your breath, you’ll descend through private farmland and stop at a scenic lookout tower. From here, enjoy views of Auckland, Hamilton, the Huntly Power Station, and Mt Pirongia, to name just a few highlights.

Your walk will then take you back through native bush and along the picturesque Matahuru Road, returning to Tui Ridge Homestay.
